Finished Reading

The Bible - Various Authors
Paperback
1094 Pages
New International Version

My 12th time reading the Bible cover to cover. I just checked to see when I finished reading the Bible last year, October 28th.

It was a good journey through the Bible.

Book Corner - Finished Reading

The Night Stalkers by Michael J Durant and Steven Hartov
Hardcover
352 pages
Military history

Not to be confused with the bad guy (Richard Ramirez), this is about a special operations helicopter unit.  Think Blackhawk Down.

It was a good read.

Book Corner - Finished Reading

We Meant Well How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People (American Empire Project) by Peter Van Buren
288 pages
Hardcover
Nonfiction - Personal narrative
First Edition

The best thing I liked about this book was that the author covers many subjects that I always forget to blog about, and he does it with grit and humor.

This book has gained a rather controversial status and I can see why.

As with all Doc Report book corner reviews I just get to the point, it's a good read.  At 288 pages, put away the TV remote for an hour each night and you'll read it in a week.

Book Corner - Finished Reading

The Disciple by Stephen Coonts
368 pages
paperpack
Spy thriller

I think this is the second by by Stephen Coonts I have read, but I'm not sure. Have to say that in the whole spy thriller genre that I seem to like so much this was a huge improvement.
Overall not over the top and I'd say it's a good read.

Book Corner - finished reading "Fast Food Nation"

fast food nation
Just finished "Fast Food Nation", what an eye opening book. The author
has his critic's, as does any author, but I'm going to place my money on
his facts, which are pretty scary, especially about the meat packing
industry.

Book Corner - Finished Reading

Lost Soldiers by James Webb. After reading Field Of Fire this book
almost felt like a letdown, but it was a good read. I don't want to
ruin it for anyone interested in reading it, but I'll just say it's
about an American expat who goes to Vietnam in search of some MIA's.

The neat thing about the book is that it takes place in modern day
Vietnam and many of the scenes the author describes reminds of the week
or so that I spent there.

Honestly, given the chance, Chris and I both would like to go there : )

Book corner - Fields of Fire

Finished reading 'Fields of Fire' by former Secretary of the Navy and decorated Marine veteran James Webb. I read this book over the weekend and couldn't put it down. It's a fictional Vietnam war novel but I'm sure many of the stories were gleaned from the authors personal experience.

It's not a "pretty" reading. I found myself at times reading the same paragraph over and over again wishing it would change! The author leaves you hanging at the end, again, you know what to expect but a few chapters later you find out the real answer.

I would highly recommend this book. It's required reading for Marines as it is in the Commandants reading list.

So hit Amazon and find a .99 used copy, VB "'m looking at you!

Oh, started reading, 'Lost Soldiers" by...James Webb!

Book Corner - Finished Reading: Duty and Dishonor

Author: Merline Lovelace

Quick synopsis: Air Force Colonel is charged with a murder in Vietnam,
you can tell quickly that she's not guilty.
I started off really enjoying this book, but after awhile just wasn't
sure if the storyline would hold my interest. I pretty much had the
outcome nailed solid by the last 4 chapters of the book, didn't have me
hanging on till the last page.
