Book Corner - Started and finished reading: Roberts Ridge

Roberts Ridge: A story of courage and sacrifice on Takur Ghar Mountain,
Afghanistan

The cover of the book says it all "Impossible to put down" James
Bradley. And true to this, I read this book over the weekend. Unlike
the previous fiction books that I've read this is a true to life
gripping story and from our time.

I don't want to go into to much detail about the book, but basically it
covers the a Special Forces operation in which a Navy SEAL (Neil
Roberts) fell from a helicopter and the ensuing attempts to rescue him,
along with much behind the scenes activity.

The book has a close connection to me as Neil Roberts was living in
Virginia Beach at the time and the media covered his situation constantly.

Definitely worth reading!

Now that the Doc Report has gone blog, I can do some neat things.
Case in point, I'm relaxing at the beach and this entry comes via my
Blackberry : ). But -hate typing on this thing!

Here is something interesting. The stray firework at 1:36 shown on my
YouTube video apparently put a hole in a glass door in the apartment
next door!

Book Corner - Finished Reading: Duty and Dishonor

Author: Merline Lovelace

Quick synopsis: Air Force Colonel is charged with a murder in Vietnam,
you can tell quickly that she's not guilty.
I started off really enjoying this book, but after awhile just wasn't
sure if the storyline would hold my interest. I pretty much had the
outcome nailed solid by the last 4 chapters of the book, didn't have me
hanging on till the last page.

Pizza Night

You know what I haven't had in awhile?  Pizza!  Well there isn't  a Pizza Hut or Domino's or anything else like that around here, so we decided to make one ourselves!
And what a fabulous decision that was as this was one great pizza!  With onions, mushrooms, red peppers, salami, anchovies, olives and a big heaping helping of mozarella cheese!  We did cheat on the crust though :  )

And followed this with some ice cream :  )

Monk Parakeet's - the little green birds you almost never notice

I've meant to mention the green parakeets we have here.  You can walk by a flock of them on the grass and never notice them, gee wonder why?
I've heard different takes on them, some saying that they are not parakeets at all.  I Googled them and came up with this Wiki entry.

before these are not your typical fireworks, really loud, even the
bottle rockets.
Neighbors behind us are having a party, most likely will go on all
night, we'll see.

Learning espanol

The other day "C" and I visited the first restaurant that we ate at when
we arrived here. It was funny as when the waiter handed us our menus
how much more the meals on the menu finally started making sense!

layout updates

Spent around 30 minutes this morning updating the
layout and content of my blog. Pretty easy I must
say.

Very nice here this morning, although not sunny.

Will be booting up into my Ubuntu system soon and see
how many bugs I can work out!

I think I have the microphone problem solved.

Slamming doors

The apartment tends to get a very nice breeze when you open the windows, but it never fails to happen, slamming doors! And let me tell you, they slam fast and loud!
We tried rubber door stoppers but the doors are to flush to the floor to squeeze under.

For now, we continue to use 2 liter water bottles

This blog thing is working out pretty good!  I created a nickname for my blog publishing email address, blog, all I have to do is type blog in the "To" line, a subject line, my text and send.

Anyhoos' ,my 24 rant.

24 the show that is.  I've watched series 1,2, and 3, currently working on the 4th.
Funny thing is all the security mistakes they make on that show, especially allowing cellular phones in this "secure" building that and there is no secure entrance or exit points.  Seems all people ever do is just walk into the building.  I also think it's funny how cell phones work anywhere and everywhere on that show!
